The new U2 single is clean, simple and to the point. It's neither self important nor regurgitative of their past efforts. There's a catchy hook, a good groove and a nice half time break beat later in the tune. Bono even asserts "I don't want to talk about wars between nations". What's more, their album cover does not feature their name or album title, much less the band members, for the first time in over ten years.
I'm skeptical of this being the calling card to an upcoming artistic renaissance for the band, but it's nice to hear them not trying so hard.
